What You'll See
The Experience
The Extended Island Run
The Two Island Safari is the longer, more expansive version of the Airlie Adventure. At two hours and $319 per ski, you cover more distance, visit two distinct islands, and spend more time exploring the waters between them. If the 1.5-hour tour is a taste, the Safari is a proper meal.
The extra 30 minutes make a genuine difference. Rather than looping around the nearest islands and heading back, the Safari pushes further out into the Whitsunday waters, reaching islands that the shorter tour cannot access within its timeframe. You ride through channels between islands, explore sheltered bays, and cover enough distance to feel like you have been on a genuine expedition rather than a quick spin.
The Route
Departure & Warm-Up
The tour begins at the Airlie Beach foreshore with the same thorough briefing as the shorter tour — jet ski controls, hand signals, formation riding, and safety procedures. Once on the water, the guide leads the group out through Pioneer Bay at a moderate pace while everyone gets comfortable with the machines.
Island One — Round-top Island
The first stop is Round-top Island, a small, uninhabited island just offshore from Airlie Beach. The guide circles the island, pointing out features and slowing in the shallows where sea turtles are frequently spotted. The water around Round-top is clear enough to see the sandy bottom and the occasional turtle gliding below the surface.
The group pauses in the lee of the island for photos. With the jet skis idling on calm, clear water and the island rising green behind you, the photo opportunities are excellent. The guide knows the best angles and positions the group accordingly.
The Crossing
From Round-top, the Safari heads further out towards Daydream Island. The crossing covers open water, and the guide adjusts the pace based on conditions. On calm days, this stretch is where the group opens up the throttle and experiences the full speed of the machines. On choppier days, the guide picks a route through sheltered water and the ride takes on more of an adventure character — reading the swell, timing the waves, and feeling the power of the ski beneath you.
Island Two — Daydream Island
Daydream Island is a developed resort island, but the jet ski tour accesses the undeveloped side — hidden coves, rocky headlands, and shallow bays that resort guests rarely see. The guide navigates the group through narrow passages between rock formations, along the island's fringing reef, and into bays where the water is calm and impossibly clear.
The shallows around Daydream are a haven for marine life. In addition to turtles, you may encounter eagle rays, small reef sharks, and schools of tropical fish visible from the surface. The guide stops the group at the best viewing points and gives time for everyone to look and photograph.
The Return
The group circles back through the channel between Daydream and the mainland, then cruises along the coast towards Airlie Beach. The return leg is relaxed — two hours on a jet ski is physically engaging, and by this point most riders are happily cruising rather than racing. The guide finds one final stretch for a speed run before the group returns to the foreshore.
Safari vs Airlie Adventure
The Airlie Adventure at $259 covers 1.5 hours and stays closer to the foreshore. The Two Island Safari at $319 adds 30 minutes and reaches further into the island chain. The per-person difference (assuming two riders per ski) is approximately $30 each.
The Safari is worth the upgrade if you want to see more of the Whitsundays from the water, if you enjoy being on a jet ski and want more time, or if you are visiting Airlie Beach specifically for adventure activities. The additional distance means more varied scenery, more wildlife encounters, and a greater sense of having explored the region.
