What to Expect

The Whitehaven Indulgence is Helireef's hybrid experience — part scenic flight, part beach escape. You get the aerial spectacle of a helicopter over Heart Reef and Hill Inlet, then the helicopter lands at Whitehaven Beach and you spend a full hour on the sand before flying back. It combines the two most sought-after Whitsunday experiences into a single trip that takes two to three hours from start to finish.

The flight departs from Whitsunday Airport and follows a scenic route over the island chain towards the outer reef. The pilot takes you directly over Heart Reef, hovering above the iconic heart-shaped coral formation while passengers photograph it from above. The naturally formed shape is roughly 17 metres across and sits in a protected zone — no boats or swimmers are permitted, so the only way to experience it is from the air. From a helicopter hovering directly overhead, the shape is unmistakable and the surrounding reef colours are extraordinary.

The flight then sweeps south towards Hill Inlet. The pilot circles to capture the tidal sand patterns from multiple angles, with the swirling channels of white sand and turquoise water shifting constantly with the tide below. From Hill Inlet, the helicopter descends and lands on Whitehaven Beach itself.

One hour on Whitehaven Beach. The sand is 98% pure silica — impossibly white, cool underfoot even in summer, and stretching seven kilometres along the shore. The water is calm, clear, and warm. You can swim, walk north towards the Hill Inlet lookout trail, or simply sit on one of the world's most beautiful beaches and absorb the fact that you arrived by helicopter. The pilot remains with the aircraft and can direct you to the best spots based on the current tide and conditions.

After your beach time, the helicopter lifts off for the return flight to the airport, completing a loop that covers the best of the Whitsundays in a compact timeframe.

It is exceptionally popular for proposals — arriving on Whitehaven Beach by helicopter is about as dramatic an entrance as you can make.
